LGBT+ Rights are
Human Rights

The fight for equal rights among the LGBT+ community remains as critical as ever, rooted in the unshakable truth that love is love. The Queer community deserves to live in a world where identities are respected and protected under the law, and communities are free from violence, discrimination, and prejudice. Advocacy for justice, equality, and inclusion is essential to dismantle systemic barriers and create a society where everyone can thrive, regardless of who they love or how they identify. In 2023, there were an alarming amount of bills proposed (and passed) aiming to limit the rights of LGBTQ+ citizens all over the United States of America. Together, we must amplify queer voices and champion policies that ensure safety, dignity, and equal opportunity for all.

Furthermore, we must advocate fiercely for our most vulnerable community members—our transgender brothers and sisters. In recent years, there has been a disturbing amount of legislation designed to restrict the rights of transgender individuals, from limiting access to healthcare to denying their existence in public spaces. These attacks not only endanger lives but perpetuate a culture of misunderstanding and hatred. It is our collective responsibility to stand in solidarity, challenge these injustices, and fight for a world where every transgender person can live authentically, without fear or discrimination. Their existence is valid, and their rights are human rights.

Queer people face disproportionately higher rates of suicide compared to straight people, largely due to societal stigma, discrimination, and lack of acceptance. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Building and finding strength within the queer community can be life-saving. When people feel seen, supported, and surrounded by others who share their experiences, the isolation that fuels despair begins to dissipate. Help is out there, and you don't have to struggle alone or in silence.

Support the Community

Advocate

Understand the bias and inequity facing queer and trans communities today, and advocate for your queer friends and family. Queer communities face incredibly high rates of mental health struggles, homelessness, discrimination, and violence. Something as simple as showing sympathy and support can save someone's life. You can read the Love Has No Label's bias and discrimination report here.

Give / Volunteer

Consider giving when you can. Researching and donating to groups who are fighting for queer and trans rights can go a long way in the fight for equality. If not money, consider volunteering your time with organizations such as The Trevor ProjectGLAAD, and the Human Rights Campaign.

Vote

Vote for LGBTQ+ and pro-LGBTQ+ elected officials. To ensure that LGBTQ+ voices are properly represented in elected office, you should research each candidate and inquire about their views on queer and trans rights. You can visit LGBT Equality PAC to see a list of endorsed queer elected representatives.
